Associate of the Month

Jim Moore is a high school teacher and musician in Brighton , Ontario , who has been involved in music presentations in school and in the Quinte community for over 30 years, performing in musicals, dinner theatre, dance bands and night clubs. Jim has participated in several benefit performances across Ontario on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Jim teaches at East Northumberland Secondary School , a school renowned for the quality and scope of its musical presentations, most recently including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, Grease, and this past year Victor Hugo's magnificent Les Miserables.

Jim has been involved in many aspects of these presentations, including sound and lighting, set design and manufacture, special effects, as well as being a member of the pit band.

In January 2003, in preparation for Les Miserables, ENSS staff asked Jim to design and oversee a major renovation of the 33-year-old lighting system in their Gym/Auditorium. Completely financed by fundraising activities within the local community, construction began in November 2003 with Eric Bartnes of Bartnes & Associates as project advisor. The project was completed in March 2004, just in time for dress rehearsals. Jim was involved in every aspect of the renovation, from design and schematics drawing to repair of the existing lighting strips and fixtures to installation of the new lighting equipment.

The new state-of-the-art lighting system, along with fantastic moving set pieces, innovative costumes, and dramatic backdrop, created an atmosphere that complemented the wonderful performances of the student cast. The ENSS performances of Les Miserables have received accolades from people all across southern Ontario.
